Product Description

Bifidobacterium breve (B. breve) is a member of the genus Bifidobacterium with probiotic properties. Isolated from the intestinal tract of healthy infants, it is a Gram-positive, anaerobic, rod-shaped bacteria that is non-motile and forms branches with its neighbours [1]. B. breve has been studied and linked to certain diseases, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It may help relieve IBS symptoms such as pain, bloating and constipation. B. breve also has a safety profile and is proven to be a suitable probiotic for routine use in premature infants.

Uses

B. breve is a member of the genus Bifidobacterium. It is widely used in dietary supplements, beverages and lactic acid products such as yogurt. The uses of B. breve are listed below.

  • Yogurt

Fermented yogurt is the most common application of bifidobacteria in industrialization. Using B. breve as fermentation strains with conventional strains can produce yogurt with high nutritional value and unique flavor.

  • Beverages

It is a novel probiotic drink made from bifidobacteria. As a well-accepted functional drink, these probiotic beverages are a good source of certain nutrients, and can meet the needs of people with lactose intolerance as well.

  • Dietary supplements

Synbiotic preparations can be used as dietary supplements and have a positive effect on restoring and maintaining colonic microflora. Bifidofactors are functional oligosaccharides that benefit to the growth and reproduction of bifidobacteria in the gut. Combining B. breve and bifidofactors as a synbiotic preparation is more effective than probiotics or prebiotics alone.
