Vitamins

Vitamins are organic molecules that are essential for human nutrition and growth. Their function is crucial to the body's metabolism, growth, and development. An organism needs vitamins in small quantities for the proper functioning of its metabolism. If there is a long-term lack of certain vitamins, it will cause physiological dysfunction and certain diseases. Although vitamins are essential micronutrients, most of them cannot cover the needs of the body since the organism cannot synthesize them or the amount of synthesis is insufficient. Therefore, we need to consume enough vitamins through reasonable dietary arrangements and balanced nutrition.

There are many types of vitamins and they are generally divided into fat-soluble vitamins (including vitamins A, D, E, K) and water-soluble vitamins (including vitamin B and vitamin C) according to their solubility. As the name suggests, water-soluble vitamins dissolve in water, while fat-soluble vitamins dissolve in fat.

Alfa Chemistry has been focusing on dietary supplements for many years, and we provide you with vitamin A, Vitamin B, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E and other vitamins. They can be used in dietary supplements or added to foods as functional ingredients for nutritional fortification. Please click on the images below to learn more about vitamins.

Causes of Vitamin Deficiency

  • Diet

A single diet can lead to an insufficient intake of vitamins. Vitamins are naturally found in certain foods and may increase the risk of vitamin deficiency in vegetarians or others who follow a simple diet. Improper food storage or cooking can also cause vitamins to be destroyed. For example, folic acid (a B vitamin) or vitamin C in food is destroyed during heating.

  • Disease

Digestive disorders affect the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins. Other diseases such as liver failure, kidney disease, gastric bypass, and chronic diarrhea may also make it difficult for people to absorb vitamins normally.

  • Other factors

Vitamin D comes primarily from sunlight. And lack of sun exposure may lead to vitamin D deficiency. For some special groups, such as pregnant and lactating women, children, and people engaged in special jobs, the demand for vitamins is high. In addition, the irrational use of antibiotics may also lead to higher vitamin requirements. When supplementation does not meet the requirements, the risk of vitamin deficiency increases.

Ways of vitamin supplementation

  • A balanced diet

A balanced diet will provide you with the multivitamins your body needs.

  • Vitamin supplements

If you can't get enough vitamins through your diet, you need to take vitamin supplements to avoid vitamin deficiencies. To stay healthy and well-nourished, you need to know the RDA (Recommended Dietary Allowance), the AI (Adequate Intake) and the UL (Tolerable Upper Intake), which vary by vitamin type. Vitamin supplement intake should be below the UL in order to avoid vitamin overdose.
